A special boarding school for autistic youngsters is on the cards for the Dumfries and Galloway region.
Education bosses are pushing for the move which, they say, could save as much as £200,000 a year from 2015.
They point out that five children and young people are in 39-week placements at New Struan School, Alloa, at a cost of £93,605 each for weekly boarding.
In all, ten children and young people are in residential schools “principally because of needs arising from autism”.
