US News: President Obama signs bill expanding ABA coverage for military kids with autism

Building on the progress for families of children with autism established throughout his first term, President Obama signed a bill Thursday expanding coverage of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy for military families through TRICARE, the Pentagon’s healthcare program.

The bill was added as a provision to the National Defense Authorization Act last December thanks to Democratic members of Congress Rep. John Larson of Connecticut and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. It was introduced as a permanent expansion of coverage of ABA therapy, but was modified to create a one-year pilot program instead.
